Along with an arborist’s report, some municipalities and counties may require a tree inventory be submitted in order to obtain building permits.
A tree inventory usually consists of a database listing all trees of a significant size, plus several different characteristics about those trees such as species, diameter at breast height (DBH), height, critical root zone, health, and any notable features.
We have compiled all types of tree inventories, including those for small residential properties with two or three trees and a few characteristics, as well as large scale commercial and government properties with hundreds of trees and twenty characteristics per tree. We use the latest technology to record and keep accurate records.
Cities such as Seattle and Burien use this information to maintain a database of trees both on public property and on private property. The City of Seattle has an interactive map showing all the street trees they have in their database. If new trees are planted as part of a building project, those trees are added to the database and the trees are monitored in the field on a regular basis. You can visit the interactive map here.
